Thank you very much for your feedback.

The method '02 forest conversion (Pina Earth) was in public consultation for feedback from September 30 - October 31, 2024. All feedback is published anonymously in the feedback documentation.

Second public consultation of the method
'02 Forest conversion'

The method '02 forest conversion' from Pina Earth is entering itssecond public consultation at . New adjustments were made to the requirements based on the experience from the pilot phase. The aim is for the Technical Committee to recommend accreditation.

The method aims to increase the climate resilience of commercial forests . The aim of forest conversion is to create multi-layered forests with different tree species and age classes. This is intended to promote the natural dynamics of the forest, as well as biodiversity and adaptability to climate change.

As part of eva's multi-stakeholder dialog, Pina Earth and eva invite you to the second Public Consultation.

The public consultation will take place from September 30 to October 31, 2024 During this period, the method will be open to the interested public and all participating stakeholder groups for feedback.

Your feedback counts until October 31, 2024

Note: The methods will only be accredited after further in-depth consultations with the IPCC, the Technical Committee and the public. The German Council on Forest and Climate Change and the Technical Committee of the eva foundation are neither responsible for the content of the method nor for the development of the method, but serve as a sounding board and advisory body.

Basics for public consultation

The experiences and adjustments in the '02 Forest conversion' method are presented in the presentation and in the explanatory video. The changes can be found in the track changes of the standard (list of adjustments).

The current status of the method can be viewed in the current version of the Forest Climate Standard.

Development process

The '02 Forst adaptation' method went into the first public consultation as a draft in winter 2023 and was approved for the pilot phase in fall 2023 after a technical review. The method is currently in the pilot phase and has not yet been accredited.

Thank you very much for your feedback.

The forest conversion method (Pina Earth) in version 0.1 was in public consultation for feedback from March 01 - 31, 2023. All feedback is anonymized in the feedback documentation published.

Method: forst adaptation

The scope of the forest climate standard is being expanded: following the development of a method for reforestation, we are working together with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and Pina Earth to develop a method for forest conversion. In order to consider all perspectives on the calculation basis of the forest conversion method , Pina Earth and eva have invited to the first Public Consultation .

The public consultation took place from March 1 to 31, 2023 . During this period, the method was open to the interested public and all participating stakeholder groups for feedback.

Your feedback counted until March 31

The listed method papers, webinars and presentations of the forest conversion method served as thebasis .

Method: Forest conversion - Part 1 (Basics)

The forest conversion project type is presented and the Pina Earth method design is explained in detail.

The forest conversion method is described in the following documents and explains the the most important questions and functions:

  • How is the method structured?

  • For which scope and area of application is the method designed?

  • How does the quantification process work?

Method: Forest conversion - Part 2 (GHG balancing)

The methodology paper and webinar with accompanying presentation describe the GHG accounting and quantification process in detail.

It guides you through the entire process that a project goes through:

  • Processing of input data to create the digital forest twin of the initial stand on the project area

  • Setting the parameters used to simulate baseline and project scenario

  • Sequence of calculation steps in the simulation: mortality, growth & natural regeneration and utilization & maintenance

  • Calculation of the climate impact

Development process of the method

Following the public consultation, your comments will be reviewed and, on this basis, the method will be further developed and presented to the Forest Climate Council and the Technical Committee . The forest conversion method entered the pilot phase in fall 2023.
